Parasitology

History

The Department of Parasitology started working at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in 1981 with the establishment of Tarbiat Modares University. Since its establishment, the Department has been responsible for providing undergraduate student education. In 1988, the Department began to train postgraduate students of Parasitology in order to prepare experts and professionals in the field of education and research and provide qualified faculty members for other domestic universities. In addition, several post-doctoral students have also been admitted to this Department. In a constructive interaction with international scientific centers, the group has been responsible for the training, preparing and coaching some postgraduate students, for MSc and PhD programs, from Afghanistan and Iraq in Parasitology, as well as accepting fellowship applicants from Iraqi faculty members.
The Department of Medical Entomology was founded in 1986 to train qualified, committed, and expert individuals to meet the societys needs considering the fact that insects, directly or indirectly, involved in diseases transmission, particularly parasitic diseases. In 2001, the Department was merged with Parasitology Department to pursue bilateral educational and research goals by means of Unit management.

The Mission of the Department

Training expert faculty members in the field of Parasitology and Entomology who are committed to the Islamic Republic of Iran for various medical schools and universities, contributing to the development and expansion of higher education, participating in the development and strengthening the science and software production movement with an emphasis on Islamic culture, putting into practice the scientific-research achievements, and disseminating moral virtues and morality of sacrifice is in line with the values and aspirations of Islamic Iran.

Department Members Accomplishments

Faculty members and students are recognized figures in Parasitology and Entomology fields for their leading role in the production of science and their research activities embodied in their innovative and pioneering designs. In addition to educational and research activities, the Department members undertakings embrace activities such as participating in designing and revising specialized programs in Parasitology and Entomology at different levels, participation in the countrys scientific forums of Parasitology and Entomology, planning and implementing specialized workshops in Parasitology and Entomology, peer-reviewing academic papers in editorial boards of journals, planning and holding conferences and congresses related to Parasitology and Entomology, and the official membership of the group members in the committees and councils and expert groups of Macro-parasitology and Entomology planning e.g. the Specialized Board at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
