Pure Mathematics

The Pure Mathematics Department at the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences of TMU was founded in 1983 and since then has grown up from its starting point to strength, then to super strength. The research environment of the department is the very best in Iran and its MSc and PhD programs are exceptionally well. The department has constantly enjoyed growth, both in the quantity and quality of academic staff as well as other educational and research activities. The Pure Math. Dept. is committed to excellence and continuing improvement. The active researches in the department include Differential Geometry, Algebraic Topology and Algebraic Geometry, Functional and Harmonic Analysis, Dynamical Systems and Ergodic Theory, Number Theory, Group Theory, Noncommutative Ring Theory, Model Theory and Set Theory.
Candidates have to successfully pass the National Entrance Exam of Universities for admission to MSc and PhD programs. The department currently has 10 full-time faculty members. Most of them are active members of the Iranian Mathematical Society, LMS, AMS, ? the Editorial Board of BIMS, and other prestigious math. journals or act as referees. All faculty members have published papers in reputable journals with impact factors higher than the world average and a good citation index. The main mission of the department is to train graduates who can teach and do research internationally very well. The department has had about 557 Msc. and 136 Ph.D. alumni (till 2024), almost all of them have been employed as (academic) staff in good universities and institutions in Iran and abroad.
The department has extensive domestic and international collaborations. Providing educational and research services, offering sabbatical leave for faculty members and Ph.D. students at famous universities in the world and carrying out joint research projects. In addition to its routine seminars, the department holds national and international conferences, e.g. Group Theory, Noncommutative Algebra and its Applications, Operators on Banach Algebras and related Topics, Dynamical Systems, biomathematics, ?
Some of the alumni of the department are now studying at famous universities abroad. The Department of Pure Mathematics welcomes elite students and is ready to cooperate with other universities and research centers and is prepared to recruit specialized staff in all fields of pure mathematics. The department also welcomes postdoc researchers and faculty members who are willing to get research opportunities here. So far, several post-doctoral researchers have successfully completed their research courses in the department, while some others are currently engaged in their research.
Some of the students and faculty members of the department have been awarded some distinguished local/national titles.
