Interdisciplinary Science and Technology

Introduction

Data science is an interdisciplinary field in which statistics, mathematics, and computer sciences are playing key roles there. Because data science is directly linked with the theoretical and applied foundations of creating innovative and advanced technologies based on data-generating, it is enlarging with high speed. Having experts with high theoretical ability in the subject and consequently being more active in enhancing the country?s objectives is necessary. In accompanying the country?s programs in expanding the science and technology and also paying attention to fundamental research, running a course in the data science was a response to such requests in the country.

Aims

The main aim of the M.Sc. program is to provide a suitable educational atmosphere to train the students so that having the ability to understand the theoretical and applied aspects of data science. Also, it is expected that the students not only be effective in incorporating with engineers in various applications but also have the innovative ability in solving the problems in this field.

Missions

The main mission of data science is to train students that can do the research in different research and applied disciplines in industry and other sectors relevant to the topic of data science.

Plans

The M.Sc. degree is planned for two years credit-based program. All courses are taught in two semesters each having sixteen weeks of teaching and including two education and research periods as follows:

1. The education period is started after accepting the candidate. The students will achieve the ability to start the research period. This stage is completed after passing the courses in the education period.
2. The research period is started after finishing the educational stage. The students will do the research under the supervision of at least a scholar in the course. This stage is completed after writing and presenting a thesis in data science.
