Agricultural Biotechnology
About us
At first I would like to welcome you to the website of the Department of Agricultural
Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran. Nowadays,
the application of biotechnology is considered as a new tool in agricultural research
as well as medical and veterinary sciences. In agricultural sciences, use of biotechnological
approaches resulted in increasing crop yield and nutritional value, production of
pharmaceutical compounds, extending postharvest shelf life, studying of biosynthesis
pathways and improvement of agricultural crops for growing under biotic or abiotic
stress conditions. Application of new techniques lets breeders to replace and/or
remove time-consuming methods in plant breeding programs. Clearly, development and
using of new technologies are obligated to overcome food crisis resulted of decreasing
arable field area under cultivation and climate changing. Innovation and creativity
of new tools help researchers to enhance food supply under these limitation factors. HistoryAt first, the section of Biotechnology was launched in 2006, merged in Plant Breeding Department under the name of Department of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology till 2015 under the College of Agriculture, Tarbiat Modares University, located in Tehran, Iran. During this period, around 70 MS students were graduated. Due to the importance of biotechnology application in different section of agriculture, the most reorganization took place in 2016, when the department of agricultural biotechnology was founded by separation from Department of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology. At that time, this department was allowed to accept candidates for Ph.D. degree, based on getting qualification which evaluated by Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. |
