Soil Science

Soil, water and air are three main components of the environment. Soil has two key roles in nature, one is the storage and supply of water and nutrients for plant growth, and the other is the refinement or storage of various organic and inorganic pollutants. Hence, the soil plays a vital role in the formation and continuation of life of most living things.
The soil can be regarded a complete living environment. In addition to plants, many types of micro-organisms directly or indirectly depend on soil. The soil feeds living organisms by its organic and mineral colloidal particles. Surface load of soil colloidal particles, in addition to being a primary contributor to nutrition, are very effective in aggregate formation and therefore play a lead role in most physical processes and development and evolution of soil.
Due to the importance of soil in nature, and in order to develop soil knowledge, TMUs Soil Science Department started its educational and research activities in 1986. In line with the mission of the university, this department has played an important role in the training of the human resources required by the universities and research centers of the country in the eighties and nineties. In addition, research carried out in this department has had an important role in developing the knowledge of soil science, especially in the field of plant nutrition and its promotion all over the country.
After reviewing the curriculum for soil science and defining two new disciplines at the High Council for Educational Planning, in 1995, the Soil Science Department started admitting master and doctoral students in two sub-disciplines of fertility management and soil biotechnology and soil resource management intermittently each year.
Heads of the department in chronological order have been:

  1. Dr. Mohammad Jafar Malekuti (1986- 2011)
  2. Dr. Hussein Ali Bahrami (2011- 2015)
  3. Dr. Rasoul Rahnamaee (2015 ' now)
