The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of the Faculty of Natural Resources and Marine Sciences at Tarbiat Modares University began its educational activities in the masters degree program in Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering at the Noor campus in 1990 (corresponding to the Persian year 1369).
One of the most important objectives of this academic field is to cultivate individuals who possess the necessary skills and expertise to design environmentally related projects and oversee their implementation. These specialists will be capable of conducting research to address environmental issues and problems in the country, contributing to their improvement.
Currently, student admissions are open in three specializations within the field of environmental engineering:

  1. Environmental Pollution
  2. Biodiversity Management and Conservation
  3. Land Assessment and Planning

In a significant milestone, "Tarbiat Modares" University established the Doctoral Program in Environmental Sciences and Engineering for the first time in the country. Many of its graduates are now actively serving as faculty members in other universities both within and outside Iran.
The Environmental Group stands out due to its extensive and sometimes unique laboratory facilities related to environmental pollution. As the first state university in the country, it admitted doctoral students in the field of environmental pollution in 2007 (corresponding to the Persian year 1386). The presence of advanced laboratory equipment, experienced professors, and a wealth of research conducted by the group has positioned it as a national hub for environmental pollution studies.
Graduates of the doctoral program in Environmental Sciences and Engineering can find employment in various institutions, including:

  • Environmental Protection Agencies
  • Natural Resources Departments
  • environmental Laboratories
  • HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Units in companies, organizations, and oil and petrochemical industries.
