Establishment of biotechnology department was first put forward in 1990, and
two years later, the first Biotechnology Department was founded at TMU. This
department admits MSc and PhD students and is wellknown as a distinguished and
leading department in the area of biotechnology in Iran. Research activities of
the department are conducted in 3 laboratories equipped with new facilities
under the supervision of faculty members and specialists. Research areas offered
for present and future students at this department are:
Bioprocess engineering
Environmental biotechnology
Industrial biotechnology
Recombinant proteins
Food biotechnology
Metabolic engineering
MESSAGE OF THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT:
Needless to say, bioengineering constitutes an important stage of
commercializing biotechnology research. Presently, bioengineering focuses on
production processes at molecular or micro scale levels such as metabolic
engineering, simulation of biochemical and genetic processes. That is why we
need to seriously get involved in and closely monitor the latest development in
order to catch up with scientific and technological progresses made worldwide.
