The Department of Directing & Acting as one of the first departments dates back to the formation of the Faculty of Arts at TMU. Since that date, this department has been engaged in the education of students in performing arts. This department was the first department which proposed the curricula draft which was approved and is now taught in other universities of Iran. Many faculty members engaged in educational activities at other departments throughout the country are graduates of this department.
This department offers master programs in two areas of directing and acting and focuses on the following issues:

• History and Theory of Art
• Foundations of the performing arts in Iran (in particular, Taziyeh and Takht Houzi theatre)
• Iranian performing rituals and legends
• Theatre comparative studies in Iran and the world
• Performing techniques and methods (in directing and acting)
• Theatre in Iran and its artists
• Historical and social backgrounds of theatre in Iran
• Analysis and study of performing concepts in Persian translations and articles
